In 1902 he graduated from the law faculty of Moscow University.
His pseudonym was Together with Andrei Bely organized poetic circle of " Argonauts ". In the years 1910-1917, along with Andrew White and Emily Medtner founded the publishing house "Musaget". He emigrated to Switzerland in 1911.
Ellis wrote literary and philosophical works in German.
He died in Locarno, Switzerland. Christian worldview Ellis Kobylinsky was not orthodox.
