李秀
Li Xiu was the daughter of a military commander in charge of the Ningzhou area (present-day Jinning County in Yunnan) during the reign of Emperor Hui of Jin.
At a time when Ningzhou was besieged by five tribal peoples, Li Xiu's father fell ill and died without a male heir. The subordinates supported Li Xiu as the new leader in charge of the prefecture. She led the troops and the people in fighting off their enemies. Afterward, Emperor Wu (r. 265-290) named Li Xiu the regional inspector of Ningzhou (now Qujing of Yunnan Province), placing her in charge of thirty-seven tribal divisions in the Yunnan area for more than thirty years. She proved adept at both political and military affairs; thus her people lived peacefully for more than three decades. After her death, people erected temples in her memory.
Li Xiu had been good at archery on horseback since she was young.
Li Xiu was married to Wang Zai.
