Li Xiuqin was born in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China.
From 1988 to 1991, she researched in Slade School of Fine Art, United Kingdom and studied for her master"s degree in Sculpture Department, Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom on scholarship from United Kingdom Cultural Exchange Committee.
This is a Chinese name. The family name is Li. She currently lives and works in Hangzhou, China.
In 1982, she received her bachelor"s degree from Sculpture Department, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou(now the China Academy of Art, Civil Aeronautics Administration. She began to work in Civil Aeronautics Administration as a teacher in sculpting after the graduation.
In 1985, not satisfying with the only way of clay modeling in Civil Aeronautics Administration, Li went to the small metal factory in Hangzhou to find the material and welder to make several metal welding sculptures. With her sculptures, she participated in The First Teacher Exhibition in the Sculpture Department in Civil Aeronautics Administration, which enlarged her vision for metal materials.
The works produced in this period brought her the chance to study in United Kingdom.
