She graduated from the Philological Faculty of Voronezh State University (1980), Institute for Advanced Studies of Radio and Television Workers (Moscow, 1994).
In 1980-1981, she worked as a teacher of secondary school in Voronezh. In 1981-1983, she was a correspondent of the Voronezh Television. In 1983-1984, she was a literary employee of the newspaper "Mebelschik". In 1995-1998, she was an entrepreneur in Voronezh. In 1999-2000, she worked as an expert talk show on the channel TV-6 in Moscow. Since 2001, she has been working as a special correspondent of Novaya Gazeta in Moscow. Since the end of 2007, she has been the editor-in-chief of the Moscow publishing house Anagrama.
