Linda Kohanov pioneered a deep understanding of "the way of the horse," including the extraordinary nonverbal communication of skilled riders and the collaborative power of "herding cultures" through the centuries. She has adapted this profound, time-tested approach to modern life and the organizations in which top-down management hierarchies have become obsolete.

The power, grace, and freedom of horses had always resonated deeply with Stromberg. Through his photographs of these magnificent beasts, he sees a way to bridge what he calls "modern life’s disturbing separation between people and nature." The result is Spirit Horses, showcasing 140 of Stromberg's extraordinary color portraits of these animals, along with quotations from leading teachers and writers exploring equine wisdom and its intersection with spirituality.

Linda Kohanov is beloved for her groundbreaking articulation of "the way of the horse," an experiential wisdom known to riders for centuries but little studied or adapted to off-horse use. Now Kohanov takes those horse-inspired insights on exceptional communication and leadership into the realms of our workplaces and relationships. Here we explore the benefits of "nonpredatory power" in developing assertiveness, fostering creativity, dealing with conflict, and heightening mind-body awareness.

Lynda Kohanov has fifteen years of experience as a radio producer and announcer and has also worked as a music critic and print journalist. With interests ranging from worldbeat to jazz, rock, and the classical avant-garde, Linda Kohanov was a versatile critic and contributor for a number of national magazines. In addition to writing reviews and artist profiles for Jazz Times, New Age Journal, and Free Spirit, she served as the contemporary instrumental columnist for Pulse, the "Contempo" (popular jazz) column for Jazziz, and the "Worldbeat" column for CD-Review. She worked as a program director, producer, and announcer at several radio stations, including seven years at the Florida fine arts station WUWF FM in Pensacola and, currently, on-air host at classical station KUAT FM and jazz station KUAZ FM in Tucson. Her interest in Middle Eastern percussion techniques has led to live and recorded performances on frame drum and other percussion instruments, including collaborations with her husband, composer/synthesist Steve Roach.
Linda Kohanov first began exploring the horse-human connection in the early 1990s. When her black mare, Rasa, became lame, Kohanov was plagued by a series of sinister dreams and premonitions. Finally, prompted by her dreams, she canceled a risky surgery to save Rasa's potential career in competitive riding. To relate to the injured horse outside conventional equestrian pursuits, Kohanov immersed herself in the day-to-day activities of the herd. In the process, she discovered that horses are intensely emotional, intuitive, intelligent beings. Over time, she discovered their extraordinary ability to awaken intuition in humans, while mirroring the authentic feelings people try to hide, makes these animals powerful therapeutic teachers. In 1997, she founded Epona Equestrian Services, a Tucson-based collective of riding instructors and counselors exploring the healing potential of working with horses. Kohanov works with horses to teach people advanced human development skills and she has a gift for helping people take "horse wisdom" into the home, the workplace, schools, and other human environments. Her work offers equine-inspired insights on relationship, leadership, non-verbal communication, creativity, power, spirituality, authenticity, and balance.
The Tao of Equus: A Woman's Journey of Healing and Transformation through the Way of the Horse, is Linda Kohanov's debut book describing her unique experiences working with horses. Early in The Tao of Equus, Kohanov explains that the title means "the way of the horse." In her opinion, horses are highly evolved beings capable of communicating with humans on a spiritual level. Kohanov reveals that the impetus to write the book came while working with one of her hobbled horses, a black mare named Rosa. During this period, Kohanov admits to readers that she experienced many strange, paranormal dreams. In an effort to better understand Rosa, and what ailed her, Kohanov immersed herself into the daily activities of the animal and her other horses. In the process, she realized that horses share a number of characteristics with humans, including tremendous intelligence and intuition. Armed with this knowledge, Kohanov began exploring how traumatized and unhappy people could benefit through bonding with the animals. She acknowledges that her methods may not be taken seriously, especially because of the discussion of her paranormal experiences.
Kohanov's fourth book The Power of the Herd: A Nonpredatory Approach to Social Intelligence, Leadership and Innovation explored what horses have to teach us about leadership and social intelligence, with extensive historical and scientific research showing why the world's most innovative and effective leaders, from Alexander the Great to the Buddha to George Washington and Winston Churchill, were exceptional horsemen who honed the nonverbal skills associated with leadership presence on horseback. The book also translates the practical skills horses teach directly to use at work, school, church, and political and social activism contexts.
Over the last decade, Linda Kohanov has appeared at numerous conferences, universities, and retreat centers, including the 2008 Organization Development Conference, the Omega Institute in New York, Naropa University in Boulder, the University of Arizona, Prescott College, the 2005 International Transpersonal Conference, Hollyhock British Columbia, the 2003 North American Riding for the Handicapped Conference, and the 2008 Equine Guided Education Conference, among many other venues. She became a leadership trainer at Raytheon Missile Systems in 2007 and also led trainings for executive teams at Nike, Chubb Insurance, and the Bensman Group of financial advisors, among other companies. In 2014, she led a master class in Paris at the Executive MBA Program "Leading Innovation in a Digital World" at the Institut Mines-Telecom.
Kohanov's seminars attract business leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, scientists, mental health professionals, artists, spiritual leaders, and activists from six continents. At the Eponaquest Center in Amado, Arizona, Linda developed innovative, highly effective approaches to leadership training and team building that have been embraced by executive coaches, sales managers, and major players in the aerospace industry. The demand for seminars became so great that starting in 2002, she began training instructors capable of leading their own seminars in the Eponaquest Approach. Currently over 200 Eponaquest Instructors from five continents have graduated from this highly successful, year-long apprenticeship program.
