Mike Artell was born on the 9th of December 1948 in New-Orleans, Lousiana, United States. He's a son of Joseph P.(a manager for the Louisiana Department of Revenue) and Anna L. (a homemaker) Artell.
Mike started out as a class clown. He knew he could make people laugh and that’s what got him into writing funny things. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University where he got a Bachelor of Science degree in Hammond, Louisiana, United States.
At the age of twenty-seven, he sold some jokes he had written to a magazine, and it occurred to him that he could probably get more money per joke if he could draw cartoons to go with them. So he went to the library and got a bunch of drawing books and started practicing drawing.
Mike worked at Ford Motor Credit in Metairie, Louisiana as a automobile collection/repossession agent in 1971-73, then in sales for various companies in 1973-76 at Panatec, Orange, California, he was a sales and marketing manager in 1976-79 and member of the board of directors in 1976-79 at Tano, New Orleans, Louisiana. He worked as a sales and marketing manager in 1979-82 at Digicourse, New Orleans and a sales and marketing manager in 1983-85 at Teknowledge, Dallas, Texas, afterwards he was a cartooning show host in 1989-91. School and conference speaker, 1988. He passed over a military service: U.S. Marine Corps, 1970-76; he became a sergeant E5.
Mike has got loads of awards such as “Pick of the List” selection, American Bookseller, 1992, for The Wackiest Nature Riddles on Earth; “Best Book” selection, Working Mother, for Who Said Moo?; he's received Top 100 Districts Choice Award, he's recognized for “Exemplary Service in the Promotion of Literacy” by the International Reading Association (Northshore, LA, chapter). Mike has written and/or illustrated more than 40 books - many of which have won awards.
