(Actress, singer, and entrepreneur Lindsay Lohan will expa...)
Actress, singer, and entrepreneur Lindsay Lohan will expand her empire on the luxurious island of Mykonos with the launch of her new club, Lohan Beach House - but she won't do it alone.
Lindsay Lohan is an American actress, singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. Lohan was a child actress and model before her breakout performance in the Tina Fey-scripted film Mean Girls (2004). That year she also released the pop album Speak, which went platinum. Although her career had a brilliant start, she experienced a lean patch and got entangled in several controversies towards the end of her teenage years.
Background
Ethnicity:
Lindsay Lohan's father has German, Irish and Italian ancestry. Her mother has Irish and Italian ancestry.
Lindsay Lohan was born on July 2, 1986, in New York City, New York, the United States, to Michael Lohan and Donata "Dina" Sullivan. Lohan grew up in the wealthy Long Island suburbs of Cold Spring Harbor and Merrick. Her father, Michael, a former child actor, has dabbled in a number of careers; he owned a pasta business, worked in finance as a Wall Street trader, and produced films.
Lohan's mother, Dina, has also proven to be multitalented. The former professional dancer, one of the world-famous Radio City Music Hall's Rockettes, also worked as a Wall Street analyst and then became her daughter's manager. Lohan's younger brother, also named Michael, is an actor as well, having made his feature-film debut in a small role in The Parent Trap. Lohan has two other younger siblings, Aliana and Dakota.
Education
Lindsay Lohan attended Cold Spring Harbor High School and Sanford H. Calhoun High School, where she excelled in mathematics and science. After grade 11, she was homeschooled.
Lindsay Lohan started her career as a child model at 3 years old. She got to work for some big names including Abercrombie and Fitch Kids, and Calvin Klein Kids. She appeared in more than sixty television commercials during her childhood, advertising such brands as Pizza Hut, Wendy's, the Gap, and Jell-O. At age ten Lohan was cast as Alli Fowler on the soap opera Another World, a role she played from 1996 to 1997.
Her impressive résumé, which included more than 60 television spots and 100 print ads for clients like Toys 'R Us and Duncan Hines, helped Lohan land the dual role of twin sisters in Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Just as in the original, the role of the twin girls was played by a single actress, with Lohan doing the double duty first performed by Hayley Mills. Lohan successfully met the challenge of playing two different parts, skillfully portraying the girls' different personalities and even different accents.
The Parent Trap, was a modest commercial success, earning her widespread critical acclaim and a Young Artist Award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film, as well as Blockbuster Entertainment and YoungStar award nominations. The movie performed well at the box office, garnering more than $92 million globally.
After signing a three-movie contract with Disney, she returned to the small screen to star in the made-for-TV movies The Wonderful World of Disney: Life-Size (2000) (opposite Tyra Banks). That same year Lohan was cast in a new sitcom, Bette, starring comedian, singer, and actress Bette Midler. But when the production for the show moved from New York to Los Angeles, Lohan chose to stay on the East Coast and left the show. Disney came calling again soon after, casting Lohan in Get a Clue (2002), a movie made for broadcast on the company's cable station, the Disney Channel.
In June 2001 Lohan took a brief hiatus from acting. Her music career was launched over a year later, when Estefan Enterprises made a five-album production deal with her in September 2002, and she signed a recording contract with the reactivated Casablanca Records.
Lohan's success resulted in more Disney film roles, including the remake of Freaky Friday (2003), co-starring Jamie Lee Curtis. She was appreciated for her performances and was considered a bankable star by numerous directors. Her next role with Disney, the pre-teen comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), brought mild success. The film received scathing reviews upon its release and died a quick death at the box office, but even the harshest of critics were impressed by Lohan's charming turn as aspiring actress Lola.
But it was her starring role in Paramount's Mean Girls, written by comedian Tina Fey, that turned Lohan into a bona fide star. The movie received both popular and critical success; it became the 24th highest-grossing movie of 2004 and led to Lohan being honored by the Teen Choice Awards and the MTV Movie Awards. Mean Girls was a critical and commercial success, grossing $129 million worldwide. She soon became a household name.
Lohan returned to Disney in 2005 to star in Herbie: Fully Loaded. The film earned $144 million worldwide and marked the actress's transition to more grown-up roles. In the meantime, Lohan also launched a music career. Thanks to her growing fan base, her first album, Speak, debuted in 2004 and hit platinum status. Her next album, A Little More Personal, hit stores in 2005 but didn't fare as well. Neither did her next two films, Just My Luck and A Prairie Home Companion, both of which generated mild box office sales in 2006. One of the most sought-after young actresses in the industry, she starred in Bobby (2006) (opposite Demi Moore and Sharon Stone), the Disney fantasy adventure Herbie Fully Loaded (2005) (a pseudo-sequel to The Love Bug (1968)) and the critically acclaimed A Prairie Home Companion (2006). On top of a thriving film career, Lohan also launched a music career, releasing her debut album, Speak, which hit shelves in December 2004.
As her celebrity status grew, so did Lohan's attendance at New York nightclubs. Her lifestyle became the subject of tabloid fodder, with issues ranging from her father's prison scandals to rumors of her own struggles with bulimia. On May 26, 2007, Lohan was arrested after crashing her Mercedes-Benz into a tree in Beverly Hills. She was arrested again on July 24 after allegedly engaging in a car chase with the mother of her former personal assistant. In both cases, Lohan was found to be in possession of small amounts of cocaine, below the .05 grams required for felony charges, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. After her legal run-ins, Lohan was only charged with two counts each of driving under the influence and a single count of reckless driving.
However, a passenger in the car Lohan was accused of chasing on July 24 sued the star for assault and negligence. Lohan dodged felony charges when she reached a plea deal on misdemeanor drunken driving and cocaine charges on August 23. She received the minimum sentence of four days in jail and credit for 24 hours already served. The sentence was then knocked down to one day in jail, for performing 10 days of community service at a mortuary and in a hospital emergency room. Ultimately, the actress wound up spending just 84 minutes behind bars later that year. Her sentence also included mandatory rehab. In August 2007, Lohan checked into the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Sundance, Utah, her third stint in rehab that year.
In May 2008, Lohan appeared as a guest star on the television sitcom Ugly Betty. She went on to appear in the film Labor Pains, which was released in 2009. Around the same time, she was reportedly working on a new album. In 2009 Lohan launched her own fashion line titled 6126, mainly focusing on the production of women's leggings. By spring she launched a self-tanning spray line titled Sevin Nyne and by the end of the year, she became an artistic designer for fashion house Ungaro.
In November 2012, Lohan starred as Elizabeth Taylor in the made-for-TV movie Liz & Dick. Airing on Lifetime, the movie focuses on Taylor's relationship with actor Richard Burton (Grant Bowler). She later made guest appearances on such shows as Anger Management, Eastbound & Down, and 2 Broke Girls. In 2014, Lohan took on a new challenge by performing in a London production of the David Mamet play Speed the Plow.
Entering her 30s, Lohan began spending more time at a residence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She occasionally surfaced in the news, such as when she revealed via Instagram that she had been bitten by a snake while vacationing in Thailand in late 2017, but otherwise enjoyed remaining out of the limelight.
According to a June 2018 New York Times profile, the actress had opened the Lohan Beach House club in Mykonos, Greece, and had plans for another club in Rhodes. Meanwhile, she had appeared in the British sitcom Sick Note and was developing a script of the novel The Honeymoon with its author, Tina Seskis.
The following month, MTV announced the launch of a new reality TV series based on Lohan's life as a club owner in Mykonos, called Lindsay Lohan's Beach House. Although Beach House lasted just one season, Lohan returned to the airwaves as a judge on The Masked Singer Australia in September 2019.
Around that time she debuted her first new music in more than a decade with a video for the track Xanax, featuring Finnish pop artist Alma. Lohan followed with the release of the single Back to Me in early April 2020.
Lindsay Lohan is undoubtedly one of the most-loved and most-controversial actresses of our time. Although her career began with modeling, she was soon recognized for her acting skills. Subsequently, she started getting offers from Hollywood.
She starred in a number of soap operas and made her motion picture debut with the evergreen Disney classic The Parent Trap, which catapulted her to fame. Soon, a number of films like Freaky Friday, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and A Prairie Home Companion followed.
In 2004, she won the Teen Choice Award for her performance in Freaky Friday. Her role as Cady Heron in Mean Girls won her numerous prestigious awards, including the Teen Choice Award and MTV Movie Award in 2004 and 2005, respectively. She won the Hollywood Film Award for Breakthrough Actress for her performance in Bobby in 2006.
Speak, her debut album became the first high-seller from Casablanca Records after several years. It sold over 1,000,000 copies in the United States. The album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and its single Rumours was certified gold.
