Amanda Michelle Seyfried is an American actress known for her roles in movies like Mean Girls and Jennifer's Body which fetched her several awards and nominations. Beginning her career as a model when she was just 11, she eventually branched out into acting as well when she was a teenager.
Background
Ethnicity:
Amanda’s father is of mostly German descent, and also has a little Swiss-German and English ancestry. Amanda’s mother has German, as well as some Scottish, Welsh, and Scots-Irish (Northern Irish), ancestry. She has ancestors from Hesse and Baden-Württemberg in Germany.
Amanda Michelle Seyfried was born December 3, 1985, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, United States. Seyfried’s father, Jack, worked as a pharmacist, and her mother, Ann, as an occupational therapist. She has an older sister, Jennifer Seyfried, a musician in the Philadelphia organ-driven rock band Love City.
Amanda grew up in a close-knit family: "My older sister, Jenn, is like my best friend," she has said. "My parents are still together. They were amazing parents." She is of mostly German descent, with smaller amounts of English, Scots-Irish, and Welsh ancestry.
Education
Growing up in Pennsylvania, Seyfried spent her teen years fine-tuning her voice, studying opera, and training with a Broadway coach, with the support of her mother and father. She began her modeling and acting career while still in school. She was just 11 when she became a model and was soon working for the clothing brand The Limited Too. Amanda bagged her first acting gig at the age of 15 and appeared as Lucinda Marie “Lucy” Montgomery on the soap opera As the World Turns (2000).
Her acting commitments meant she missed a lot of classes at William Allen High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, but she graduated in 2003. She secured a place at Fordham University in New York City, but a career-changing movie role of Karen Smith in a teen flick, Mean Girls, changed her plans.
In her teenage years, Seyfried started acting on daytime television. The wide-eyed actress starred as Lucinda Marie in As the World Turns in 2000 and as Joni Stafford in All My Children from 2002 to 2003.
Following high school graduation, Amanda was to attend Fordham University in New York; however, she put her education on hold when she landed her breakthrough role as Karen Smith, a member of the ditsy "plastics" in Mean Girls (2004), written by Saturday Night Live alum Tina Fey. After appearing with co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, Seyfried later said, "Oh, thank God for Mean Girls! That put me on the map!" The film was a box office hit and made Amanda a well-known face.
Following Mean Girls, this rising star had another leading role in Nine Lives (2005), a movie based on nine interwoven storylines. Amanda Seyfried’s portrayal of Samantha in the drama film Nine Lives earned her much appreciation. It was one of the actress’s initial movie appearances and she won a few awards for playing a distraught teenager who is torn between her non-communicative parents.
Seyfried acted in several supporting TV and film roles over the next two years, such as in American Guns (2005) and Veronica Mars (2004-2006). Her next prominent role was in the HBO drama series Big Love (2006), where she played one of the daughters in a polygamous Mormon family and co-starred with Bill Paxton, Chloe Sevigny, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Seyfried stayed on the show for four seasons before leaving to focus on her film career.
Returning to the movies, Amanda has been seen in supporting roles as Julie Beckley in Alpha Dog (2007) and as Zoe in Solstice (2007).
A lead role in the ABBA-based musical film Mamma Mia! (2008) lifted Seyfried to A-list status. Co-starring with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth, Seyfried played Sophie, a girl looking to find out the identity of her father before getting married. The actress also sang one of the lead songs, "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)," on the film’s album. Since its release, the film has grossed over $609 million dollars.
Seyfried appeared in several more films over the next year, including Jennifer’s Body (2008), Boogie Woogie (2009) and Chloe (2009). Chloe originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2009. In the film, Seyfried's character is an escort who is hired to test a husband, because his wife feels that she cannot trust his fidelity. Chloe enjoyed commercial success and became director Atom Egoyan's largest financial success. Seyfried's performance in the film also received favorable reviews from critics; it also helped her to gain industry acclaim and receive more opportunities to play more varied roles. She was set in 2009 to play the lead role in Sucker Punch but withdrew due to scheduling conflicts with Big Love.
2010 and 2011 were also busy years for the actress. She took lead roles in films that did not garner critical acclaim but did produce decent box-office results. In 2010, Seyfried starred in the romantic-comedy film Letters to Juliet, based on the book by Lise and Ceil Friedman, which was released to mixed reviews and was a box office success, generating US$80 million worldwide. She was named, and received an award as, the "Showest Breakthrough Female Star of The Year." She also won the "Scared-As-S**T" category for her performance in Jennifer's Body and was nominated for Best Female Performance for her movie Dear John, at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Also in 2010, she was included in Forbes's "The 17 Stars To Watch" list, and received three nominations in the Teen Choice Awards, including for Choice Movie Actress Drama and Choice Movie Chemistry with her co-star Channing Tatum for their film Dear John. Seyfried was also nominated for Choice Movie Actress Romantic Comedy for Letters to Juliet.
Seyfried played the starring role of Valerie in Catherine Hardwicke's Red Riding Hood; it was released on March 11, 2011, to mostly negative reviews, but earned US$90 million worldwide on a US$42 million budget. She also played the lead role of Sylvia Weis in Andrew Niccol's In Time, which reunited her with her Alpha Dog co-star, Justin Timberlake, released in October 2011 to mixed reviews but grossed more than US$172 million worldwide. Also in 2011, Seyfried became a spokesperson and model for Cle de Peau Beaute, a Japanese line of beauty products.
In early 2012, Seyfried appeared in the thriller Gone and played Cosette in the Oscar-nominated film adaptation of Les Misérables. The film and her performance received acclaim from critics and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and earned a total of US$440 million worldwide. Seyfried's 2013 projects included voicing the role of M.K. in the animated movie Epic, as well as appearing in the drama The End of Love, and the biopic Lovelace, in which she portrayed adult film star Linda Lovelace to critical acclaim. In 2015, she appeared in the comedy Ted 2 and Pan, in which she played Peter Pan's mother.
Seyfried has continued taking on a steady number of film roles including The Last Word (2017), First Reformed (2017), Gringo (2018), and the sequel to Mamma Mia! entitled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018).
She also plays a starring role in the Netflix original film Anon (2018) opposite Clive Owen and stars with Milo Ventimiglio in The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019).
Amanda reacted to Donald Trump's election by tweeting: "Maybe this is rock bottom and there’s no where to go but up."

Quotations:
"I just love to act and be on the set. I want to make acting my life and get really good roles."
"I do feel like I've grown up. Living by yourself in two cities, having a relationship, the Hollywood stuff. It forces you to deal with things as an adult."
"It's really easy to avoid the tabloids. You just live your life and don't hang out with famous people who are in the tabloids. Don't do anything controversial and be a normal person. Have friends. And get a job and keep working."
"People do judge you, and there are stupid rivalries. You have to wear the right things because there are all these girls my age competing for the same roles. They're judging me and I'm judging them. I try not to be that way, but sometimes I am."
"No matter what's happening in my life, I can always get lost in the romances of my characters."
Personality
Seyfried has stated that she suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. She also has stage fright and avoided performing in theater productions until April 2015. She also admitted to David Letterman that she gets nervous doing television interviews and often fortifies herself with a drink beforehand, usually whiskey.
Seyfried’s hobby of taxidermy also sets her apart from other Hollywood stars. Seyfried revealed, "When taxidermy is done well it’s an amazing piece of art. I love animals and they’re very easy to look after when they’re dead. I have a horse, a miniature horse, it’s a baby."
Amanda Seyfried can not only sing, dance, and act but also knit up stylish hats and baby booties. And she rarely uses a small knitting machine for her masterpieces. She knits even when she walks her dog. She considers knitting as her therapy.
Amanda admits that after Baz Luhrman's 1996 "Romeo + Juliet", she immediately fell in love with acting and knew that is what she wanted to be when she grew up. She says one of the perks of being an actress is locking lips with her hot male co-stars. "I can't lie. It didn't suck making out with Channing [Tatum] and Justin [Timberlake]."
If she was not an actress, she said she would have pursued meteorology. She admits being fascinated by weather.
Physical Characteristics:
Amanda has a height of 5 ft 3 in or 160 cm, and a weight of 58 kg or 128 pounds. She has long blonde hair and green eyes. Seyfried's skin is pale, for what she was bullied at school.
