In her seminars she has helped thousands of people learn her technique of visualization to lose weight, stop smoking, and reduce stress. On a professional basis, her seminars help managers inspire excellence in their staff.
Liv Fitzgerald thinks that most people are under the misguided impression that to simply imagine what they want is visualizing. She says, that to the contrary, visualization has specific steps that must be learned and practiced. She believes, that visualization has a relaxation component, and when mentally rehearsing, a person must be associated. According to her, visualization is a mental practice that aligns the conscious and subconscious mind. Liv argues that people can think of the conscious and subconscious as their two selves. These two selves work under two different sets of rules: the conscious mind is critical, its job is to protect you. She also says, that when one wants to try something new, it reminds him that he might get hurt, or he has tried this before and failed, or any other negative aspect. The subconscious mind is open and accepting of new ideas. It doesn't know the difference between real and imagined experiences. So, if one mentally practices a behavior he desires, the subconscious simply accepts it as real. Eventually, if a person keep practicing, the conscious mind gives up being critical and starts performing the behavior the way a person mentally practiced it.
