Liz Sherblom (full name Elizabeth C. Sherblom) was born on June 16, 1942 in Greenfield, Massachusetts, United States; the daughter of Daniel Cotton and Jean (Barton) Cotton, a homemaker.
Sherblom graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1964.
Sherblom received from the University of Maine at Orono her Master of Business Administration in 1984.

Sherblom was a research survey worker at Social Science Research Institute in Orono, Maine in 1983. She then became a project manager at Northeast Research in Orono in 1983-1984.
In 1984 she served as an acting dean of students at the Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, Bangor. In a year she became business manager at York Complex of the University of Maine at Orono.
Besides, Sherblom worked as director of consumer research at Market Decisions, Inc. in South Portland, Maine during 1985-1987. Later, between 1987 and 1991 she was a data centre manager at the Eastern Maine Development Corporation, Bangor.
Since 1991 she has been an artist. In addition, Sherblom authored the book "Much More Than Sexuality: Listening to 70 Gay People Talk about Their Lives".

Sherblom was a selectman and member of Penobscot Valley Regional Planning Commission Task Force on Solid Waste Management in Winterport, Maine, during 1980-1984. She was also a member and chairperson of Lobbying Network of the Natural Resources Council of Maine in 1982-1983.
Liz married John Sherblom, a professor of communication and journalism, on June 6, 1985. They have three sons: Bill Gause, John Gause, Rick Gause.
