Joined Royal Horse Guards, 1880. Served in Egyptian Campaign, 1882, present at Kassassin, Tel-el-Kebir, and capture of Cairo (medal and clasp). Nile Expedition, 1884-1885, present at Abu Klea, El Gobat, and Metemmeli (two clasps).
Hazara Campaign 1889 (despatches, medal, and clasp). Commanded Royal Horse Guards, 1899-1903. Retired 1907; Aide-de-camp to Viceroy of India, 1888-1889. Commanding Lothian and Border Horse since 1905; Lord-Lieutenant Company Berwick; Deputy Governor Bank of Scotland; D.L. Company Haddington.
