Educated Conservatoire de Musique, Paris (1st prize, cello, 1893). Pupil of J. Delsart, A. Lavignac, and Benj.

Career

Cellist (soloist and member Capet Quartette), 1893-1909. Making frequent tours in Europe. 1st conductor Opera Comique.

Paris, 1909-1911; director Montreal Opera Company, 1911-1913. Director Concerts Classiques, Marseilles, 1913-1914. 1st conductor Chicago Opera Company, 1918-1920.

Again with Opera Comique, 1920. Became French conductor Metropolitan Opera Company and Ravinia Park, Illinois, 1921. Conductor New York Metropolitan Opera orchestra, 1924-1926.

Resigned from Metropolitan Opera Company, 1936.
