Career
Gianquitto"s mediterranean style is mainly influenced by jazz, blues and rock. In 2005 he was recognised among the “New Italian Jazz talents” by Chicco Bettinardi commission and in the same year he signed off a contract with Wide Sound releasing the instrumental album My Big Room, with a track represented in the Italian Jazz, Volume(s).3 (2010), a compilation featuring the greatest Italian contemporary jazz musician. Gianquitto is the author of the treaty of harmony “Le scale napoletane nel jazz”, academically considered a valuable contribution to musicological research, and he holds a master"s degree in Jazz Music at the Music Conservatory of Naples, he travels and plays as professional musician in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Tunisia, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, on venues and events like the Montreal Jazz Festival, Eurojazz Festival Mexico City, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Festival Dècouvertes Tunisie21-El Jam, Nick Louisiana Rocca European Jazz Festival, and others
Besides the live performances, Luca Gianquitto has recorded music for movies (Napoli Mediterranea, “Passione”- John Turturro – Venezia Cinema 2010), big bands, popular/rock projects, and other countless collaborations with jazz and mediterranean artists (Eugenio Bennato, Pietra Montecorvino, Marco Zurzolo, Luca Sepe, Jenny Sorrenti, Marcello Coleman, Pippo Matino ao).
He has performed in several occasion on national television channels in Italy, Mexico, Canada, Tunisia. His activity also includes delivering seminars, including Guitar Master Class at Mexico City Conservatory, “Emomusica” on Musicology at University of Naples.
