Private 51st Massachusetts Volunteers in Civil War. Has resided in Rhode Island, since 1864, studying and practicing medicine. Elected to Rhode Island legislature 16 times from 1883.

Democratic candidate for Congress, 1894, 96, 98, 1900, 06, 2d Rhode Island District. Democratic candidate for government, 1901, elected governor of Rhode Island, November 1902, 1903. Defeated, 1904 and 1905.

Elected state senator, 1920, serving 4th term. Home: Lonsdale, R.I.
