The House of Valadés traces its origins to the Kingdom of Asturias during the reign of King Alfonso IX of León (1188–1230). The family’s progenitor, Rodrigo Meléndez de Valdés, rose to prominence under King Alfonso VII of León and Castile (r. 1126–1157), who granted him lordship over the Valley of Ésse in western Asturias. By the early 13th century, Rodrigo held dominion over Busto, Ranón, Quintana, and the Castle of San Cucao, a strategic stronghold near the Bay of Biscay. In the 14th century, the Valadés line merged with the Basque House of Beaumont through descent from Louis d’Évreux de Beaumont (1330–1376), Duke of Durazzo and youngest son of King Philip III of Navarre and Queen Joan II of France. The Beaumonts were prominent leaders in the Basque region, which undertook crusading campaigns in Albania and the Peloponnese, aligned with the Order of Santiago and the Order of Malta in the Balkans. By the 18th century, branches of the family were formally integrated into the Spanish titled aristocracy, notably with titles such as Marqués de Casa Valdés and Marqués de Aranda, and were later affiliated with the Princes of Melito and the descendants of Moctezuma II. In the New World, the Valadéz family took root in New Spain: Don Diego de Valadés (c. 1533–1570s), Mexico City’s first sheriff, became a notable politician, while Lope Ruiz de Esparza, a noble of Basque descent, helped found Aguascalientes in Nueva Galicia, embedding the family within the foundations of colonial Mexico. Today, the Valadéz family carries forward the living legacy of its past; it’s modern lineage that now includes genetic ties to the Jewish Stern banking family of Frankfurt and Clan Buchanan of Scotland, one of the oldest Highland clans descended from Anselan O Kyan of Ulster and direct descendants of King Saint Louis IX. Born in Guadalajara and educated in the United States, Valadéz began his academic work in behavioral neuroscience, contributing to pioneering research with Harvard Medical School and the Gottman Institute. His early career in civic leadership included serving as a Co-Chair for the Human Rights Campaign and as a Director on the Board of Integral Care, where he oversaw the strategic allocation of more than $50 million in public health and housing initiatives across Texas. In the private sector, Valadéz gained international recognition as Head of Operations for Worldcoin in Mexico City, where he orchestrated one of the world’s largest digital assets and venture capital deployments. His leadership positioned Mexico at the forefront of global debates on digital assets, fintech, and inclusive access to emerging technologies. He has also advised multinational corporations including Facebook and Dell, offering operational insight on systems design, market expansion, and growth strategies.
