Mahadeva Swaminathan obtained Master of Science in Organic Chemistry at Annamalai University in 1935, Doctor of Science at Madras University in 1940. He did research in various aspects of Food and Nutrition and was a specialist in Food Technology and Nutrition.
Career
Mahadeva Swaminathan worked as Biochemist at Nutrition Research Laboratory in Coonoor in 1935-1942, as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Nutrition at All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health in Calcutta in 1942-1947, as Reader in Biochemistry at Medical College in Jaipur in 1947-1949, and as Assistant Director and Head of Dietetics Division of Central Food Technological Research Institute in Mysore. He toured Italy and was specially interested in nutrition. He wrote about 200 articles and research papers, also two books on Food.
Membership
Mahadeva Swaminathan was a fellow of National Institute of Sciences of lndia; a member of F.A.O./W.H.O. Expert Committee on Calcium Requirements (Rome, 1961) and School Health Committee (Govt. of India 1960-1961).
