Yakubovich Maksimilian Yurevich came from Volhynia.
He studied at Vilnius University, graduated from it and got a Master’s degree of Philosophy.
Then he worked as a teacher in Lutsk, in 1812 in local specialized school in Postavy. Since1813 Yakubovich teached Polish, Greek and Latin at Svislach Gymnasium. In 1818 he was a teacher of Latin and ancient literature at Warsaw lyceum. Since 1819 he worked as a teacher of Latin literature at Grodno Gymnasim. In 1824 Yakubovich was transfered to the same position to Volhynian lyceum. He compiled the textbooks for learning Polish and Latin. In 1834 Yakubovich was confirmed in the position as a professor in ordinary of Roman literature at Kiew University. Since 1835 he was a dean of the first department of Philosophical Faculty, at the same time he was a teacher of the Greek language and literature. In 1839 he was transfered to the position of a professor in ordinary to Moscow University, he teached Latin, History of Roman Literature and Numismatics.
After his retirement Yakubovich came back to Vilnius. According to his views he was a typical representative
of the philosophy of Catholicism. He opposed atheism and heathenism. Being a highly educated teacher, Yakubovich enjoyed the deserved authority. He is the author of the work “Christian philosophy of life in comparison with Pantheistic philosophy of the present century” (part 1 – 3.Vilnius, 1853). Yakubovich spent the last years of his life in Zhitomir. Heresearched the problems of moral philosophy there, but he did not have time to edit and publish his works.
