Admitted to bar, 1883, and practiced at Memphis. District attorney Shelby Company, Tennessee, 1894-1900. Elected 57th to 59th Congresses (1901-1907), 10th Tennessee District.

Governor of Tennessee, 2 terms, 1907-1911. Now judge first Circuit Court, Shelby Company, Tennessee.
