Mammen having experience of 44 years in the field of publication. He done Bachelor and Master of Arts in Medieval Indian History Saint Stephen"s College in Delhi. Worked as trainee in editing in The Times of India.
After leaving from there he joined Malayala Manorama as its Delhi correspondent.
In 1968, he became a reporter for the Western Mail (Wales) in Cardiff in the United Kingdom. Also worked in The Sunday Times under Harold Evans at London.
While after getting such experiences he joined Oklahoma City Times and later for The Daily Oklahoma as reporter in 1969. After working abroad he came to India and became Editor of Malayala Manorama"s Kozhikode Unit later took charges as General Manager and Managing Editor of Malayala Manorama in Kottayam in 1980, and eight years later became the Editor as well as the Managing Director.
