After taking a break from acting to focus on her studies, she made a comeback in the 2015 film Oru Vadakkan Selfie, starting to play lead roles. After completing her Plus Two at Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, she pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Stella Maris College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In 1998, Manjima made her acting debut as a child actress in Malayalam films.
Her first role was in Kaliyoonjal in which she portrayed the younger version of Shobana"s character Gauri.
After Thandavam, she took a break from acting to concentrate on her education. During her final year of college, she was approached with the script of Oru Vadakkan Selfie.
Although she had not planned to relaunch her acting career, she accepted the offer after she had listened to and "fell in love with" the story and her character Daisy, who Manjima described as "poised, silent and a bookworm" and unlike her real life persona. Despite having had acting experience, she said that she was "not at all confident" when she started shooting for the film and that the initial days were "terrifying".
Oru Vadakkan Selfie, which was directed by G. Prajith and scripted by Vineeth Sreenivasan, featured Manjima Mohan as the female lead.
The film opened to positive reviews and became the first major box office hit in 2015. Upon Oru Vadakkan Selfie"s release, Manjima landed her first Tamil film, Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada. Its director Gautham Menon, who was impressed with her work in Oru Vadakkan Selfie, cast Manjima as the female lead, after she had gone through an audition.
She started her career as a child actress in the late 2000s and early 2000s and won a Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her performance in Madhuranombarakattu. She continued to work as a child artist for three years in films including Priyam and Madhuranombarakattu, the latter earning her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist, besides hosting Hai Kids, a television call-in show for children.
