Career
Mansho was a retainer of Sorin Otomo, a Christian feudal lord. He was sent to Italy and Spain by Sorin together with envoys of Arima and Omura. In Rome he was made an honorary citizen and Pope Sicustus V decorated him with the title of a Spur Knight. Mansho is still referred to in ancient Roman manuscripts as Ito Don Mancio. After returning home he reported his experiences to Hideyoshi Toyotomi (1590), after which he entered a monastery in Amakusa and later a seminary in Arima.
