Reisner graduated from Earlham College in 1971.
From 1972-1979, Reisner was a staff writer at the Natural Resources Defense Council. He also wrote Overtapped Oasis: Reform or Revolution for Western Water with Sarah Bates, Game Wars: The Undercover Pursuit of Wildlife Poachers and A Dangerous Place: California’s Unsettling Fate.
In addition to the appearance of his written contributions in a variety of periodicals, Reisner spent a good portion of the 1970s as a staff writer for the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York. He consulted several conservation groups over the years, served on the Tuolumne River Preservation Trust board of directors.
