Entered Mechanical Engineering ministry, 1875. Pastor at Brooklyn, New York, and Hartford, Connecticut, 1879-1884. Professor New Testament Greek and exegesis, 1884-1922, assistant dean., 1885-1889, dean, 1889-1904, professor and dean emeritus, since 1922, Boston University School of Theology.

Biblical lecturer in China and Japan, 1916.
