Previously entitled MCQs in Gynaecology & Obstetrics 3rd Edition, this text has been expanded to include Short Answer Questions (SAQs), in line with new assessments used in many medical schools. Master of Arts, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Cambridge University, 1967.
Educated at Felsted School and Cambridge University. After training at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge University and Street Bartholomew"s Hospital, London, Setchell specialised in obstetrics and gynaeocology. In 1975 he became the consultant gynaecologist and obstetrician at Street Bartholomew"s Hospital, and also at Homerton Hospital following its opening in 1986, holding both positions until 2000.
He was a consultant at: Whittington Hospital (2000–2008).
King Edward VII Hospital for Officers. Director of the Fertility Unit at the Portland Hospital (1987-1994): medical director of the Homerton Hospital (1994–1997).
His last position before retirement from the National Health Service (National Health Service) in 2008 was as consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Whittington Hospital, London. Having replaced Sir George Pinker in 1990, Setchell serves as Surgeon-Gynaecologist to Queen Elizabeth World War II Setchell delivered Lady Louise Windsor at Frimley Park Hospital, the first royal child to be delivered at an National Health Service hospital, and Viscount Severn.
In December 2012, he attended Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, in her pregnancy.
During his time as, Setchell attended Cherie Booth to deliver her and Tony Blair"s fourth child, Leo Blair. Leo was the first legitimate child born to a serving Prime Minister in over 150 years – since Francis Russell was born to Lord John Russell on 11 July 1849. In 2008 Alan Farthing was appointed to assist and to succeed Setchell as the Queen"s Surgeon-Gynaecologist, a position he retired from at the end of 2013.
Setchell, who had by then retired, was not present for the also much-awaited birth in May of 2015 of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Prince George"s younger sibling, who was delivered by Doctorates
Farthing and Thorpe-Beeston, and who will, due to the passage of remodeled primogeniture and succession laws, be fourth in line to the throne after him even if a future boy is born.
