In her youth, Way was a well-known pianist, teacher, vocal coach and accompanist. She has engaged in writing since 1970. Her numerous books set in her native Australia feature extended and lyrical descriptions of her country’s various landscapes and customs. The heroine of a typical Way romance is described as extraordinarily beautiful, feminine and highly strung. Her heroes, often in contrast to her heroines, are strikingly self-assured, and the reader is never in doubt about where his affections lie. Often a friend of the family or someone who initially takes a fatherly interest in the heroine, Way’s heroes exert considerable control over her female characters.
