Studied at Tashkent University’s Faculty of Physics. Graduated from there to become an actress in the Mossoviet Theatre.

One of the best character actresses in Soviet cinema. Later, left for Moscow, where she was accepted by the Mossoviet Theatre Drama Studio. Her first film at Armenfilm (Armenia) was Hello, It's Me (1966, director F. Dovlatian).
Her second film was a co-production with Bulgaria, Running On the Waves. Gained international recognition for her 2 roles in Andrei Tarkovskii’s The Mirror (Mosfilm, 1975). Other films of note: Monologue (Lenfilm, 1972, director Il’ia Averbakh).
