Maria Delgado was born on June 18, 1965, in London, England; the daughter of Alfred Delgado and Severina (González) Delgado.
Maria Delgado received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Wales in 1987. The next year she got a Master of Arts from the University of Leeds. Maria also was given a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1994.
Maria Delgado began her career as a special lecturer in drama at the University of Hull in 1988. In 1992 she was appointed as a lecturer in drama at Manchester Metropolitan University and in 1997 as a lecturer at Queen Mary College. In 2000 Maria was appointed a senior lecturer there.
Delgado also served as a visiting lecturer at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and Jagiellonian University of Krakow and gave guest lectures at University of Manchester, University of Leeds, University of Wales, University Castilla la Mancha, Central St. Martin’s School of Art, Instituto Cervantes (Cairo, Manchester, Leeds, and London), and the Edinburgh International Festival.
Maria was a co-programmer and co-founder of ¡Viva! Spanish Film Festival program and drama advisor at Northern Arts and North West Arts. She has also served as an advisor to the London Film Festival, co-editor of "Theory/Practice/Performance" series for Manchester University Press, editorial board member of Contemporary Theatre Review, advisory board member of Theatre Forum, international theatre assessor of Arts Council of England, trustee of Out of the Box Productions and board member of People’s Palace Productions.
Nowadays she serves in the Academic, Strategic, International and Knowledge Exchange Peer Review Colleges of the AHRC.
In 2003 Maria was made a Commander of the Order of Isabella la Católica. In 2016 she was awarded the Cross of the Order of Alfonso X the Wise for her contribution to education and culture, and in 2018 she was selected one of the University of London’s 150 ‘Leading Women’ in celebration of 150 years of women in UK higher education.
Her other awards include Premi Fundació Ramon Llull per la promoció de la cultura catalana, the TaPRA Research Prize for Editing, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education Excellence in Editing Award, the Premi Joan Centrós for best scholarly work published on Catalan-language culture, and the QMUL Drapers Award for the Development of Teaching and Learning.

2002Maria M. Delgado is a member of the Association of Hispanists. She is also an honorary Fellow of the Institute of Modern Languages Research at the School of Advanced Study, University of London and Honorary Life Member of the Standing Committee of University Drama Departments and the Theatre and Performance Research Association.
Maria Delgado married Henry Little, an arts administrator, on September 5, 1997.
