Maria Eugenia Haya studied philology at Havana University (1972-1978), graphic design with painter Raul Martinez (1965-1966), photographic evaluation under Adelaida de Juan at Jose Marti National Library 1964-1965) and history of photography under Mario Rodriguez Aleman at the Cuban Institute of Film Art and Industry (1962-1963), all in Havana.
Maria Eugenia Haya was a researcher for the History of Cuban Photography in Havana (since 1978). She organized the History of Cuban Photography exhibition in Mexico in 1979. Maria Eugenia Haya has also been a researcher and script supervisor with film maker Tomas Gutierrez Alea (1975, 1978), a photographer for the Chamber of Commerce (1970-1978) and the Exhibitions Department of Exposicuba (1966-1970) and a cartoon artist and animator with the Cuban Institute of Film Art and Industry (1962-1964).
