Buhagiar was born on October 27, 1932 in New York City, New York, United States; the daughter of George and Mae (Pietrzak) Buhagiar.
Buhagiar received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College in 1953.
Buhagiar began her career as an economist at the United States Department of Commerce in 1954. Three years later she took a position of a business reporter of Time magazine and held it for two years. Then in 1960, Marion was appointed an associate editor of Fortune magazine, where she worked until 1973. Also she served as a story development editor of the same magazine from 1970 to 1973.
Then in 1973, Marion became a text editor of Time-Life Books. Three years later she held a position of a vice president at Boardroom Inc. (nowadays Bottom Line, Inc.), where she served until 1984. The same years Buhagiar worked as an editor at the same company. In 1980, she took a position of an executive editor at Bottom Line, Inc. Since 1984 Marion has been a president of Legal Expert Connections, Inc. In addition, she was an editor at Street Smart Investing from 1987 to 1989.
