(This text adopts an integrated approach to hardware and s...)
This text adopts an integrated approach to hardware and software for the teaching of digital electronics. The aim of the book is to provide a grounding in the basic issues of combinational and squential logic design. Throughout, the emphasis is on describing the merits of modern and programmable digital design, using detailed case studies to show the interrelationship between the different design techniques that may be adopted. In the design examples described and examined, the author uses the PALASM language to specify how programmable array logic devices should operate. After a short introductory chapter, the book begins with a study of combinational logic, describing how basic logic circuits can be designed to implement digital functions. This is followed by a discussion of electronic logic circuits and their associated technologies. The discussion of sequential system design also shows the role of software in formulating the description of digital circuits. A core chapter is devoted to programmable logic implementation; the major programmable technologies are surveyed and the author focuses on programmable array logic (PAL), as a means for digital circuit implementation. Several design examples are included.

(This book is an essential guide to the implementation of ...)
This book is an essential guide to the implementation of image processing and computer vision techniques, with tutorial introductions and sample code in Matlab. Algorithms are presented and fully explained to enable complete understanding of the methods and techniques demonstrated. As one reviewer noted, "The main strength of the proposed book is the exemplar code of the algorithms." Fully updated with the latest developments in feature extraction, including expanded tutorials and new techniques, this new edition contains extensive new material on Haar wavelets, Viola-Jones, bilateral filtering, SURF, PCA-SIFT, moving object detection and tracking, development of symmetry operators, LBP texture analysis, Adaboost, and a new appendix on color models. Coverage of distance measures, feature detectors, wavelets, level sets and texture tutorials has been extended. • Named a 2012 Notable Computer Book for Computing Methodologies by Computing Reviews • Essential reading for engineers and students working in this cutting-edge field • Ideal module text and background reference for courses in image processing and computer vision • The only currently available text to concentrate on feature extraction with working implementation and worked through derivation
