Career

Project manager Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo, Madrid, 1988—1993. Consultant International Telecommunication Union / Telecom, Bogotá, 1993—1997. Professor University de Málaga, Spain, since 1997.

Achievements

• - Invention of the UMASEP predicion model/system to predict Solar Energetic Particles events. Real-time UMASEP's predictions are redistributed by NASA's iSWA, and European Space Agency's SEPsFLAREs space weather systems. UMASEP's model is able to identify time intervals of hazardous Sun-Earth magnetic connection.
  
  - Invention of formula, called Information Cost Function (ICF) within the machine learning method EG2, measures the cost-benefit ratio of attributes with the purpose of automatically building classification trees with economic sense. The ICF function is being used as the core function of several cost-sensitive evolutionary systems.
  
  - Invention of the data mining algorithm called BPL for predicting events.
  
  - Invention of data mining algorithm called OnlineTree for learning decision trees incremmentally.
