Martin Bidney was born on April 21, 1943, in New York City, New York, United States. He is the son of David and Evelyn (Breslin) Bidney.
Bidney graduated from Indiana University—Bloomington with a bachelor's degree in 1963. He holds a doctorate of the same university from 1971. He received his master's degree from Harvard University in 1965.
Bidney devoted all his career to teaching at the State University of New York at Binghamton, first as an instructor, and from 1989, as a professor of English and comparative literature.
In 2004, Bidney has retired and currently holds the position of professor emeritus at the university. He also continues working as a freelance author and is a founder-editor of Dialogic Poetry Press.
Martin Bidney is an experienced Professor Emeritus with a demonstrated thirty-five-year history of working in higher education and since "retirement" a founder-editor of Dialogic Poetry Press and publisher of 17 books of poetry original and translated from Polish, Russian, and German. He is also a contributor of more than seventy articles, translations, and reviews to academic journals, including Slavic and East European Journal, Byron Journal, Mississippi Quarterly, Studies in Comparative Literature, Victorian Newsletter, and Studies in Short Fiction.
