Martin educated Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, and law school, University Nacional de México. Ed, Mexico, in 1938 (also French, English, Dutch, Czechoslovakian translations), Mina el mozo, Madrid, in 1932, and Filadelfia, paraíso de conspiradores, Madrid, in 1938.
For several months in 1914, he was under the direct orders of General Francisco "Pancho" Villa. He later wrote a five-volume biography of Villa, Memorias de Pancho Villa (1936-1951). Much of Martin Luis Guzman’s work focuses on the Mexican Revolution of 1913, in which Guzman himself took an active role. His novel El aguila y la serpiente reflects his revolutionary experiences, while his portrait of revolutionary leadership in Memorias de Pancho Villa has gained widespread critical acclaim. Guzman returned to politics late in life, when he became Mexico’s ambassador to the United Nations in 1951.
In 1909 Martin married Anita West Villalobos, and they have three sons.
