Most of the lawyers during his time were his pupils. Masasuke Koremune was appointed Chief Judge (990). When a dispute arose between the Shinto priest of Usa Shrine and Sari Fujiwara (local governor) and the case was brought to him for judgment, he deprived Sari of his post after hearing both sides. This created quite a stir at that time and added considerably to his reputation as an impartial judge.
