Came to America, 1851. Enlisted in 6th Ohio Cavalry, 1861, and advanced to major, April 8, 1865. Participated in Shenandoah Valley campaign, 1862, battles of the Wilderness, Trevilian Station, Mallory’s Cross Roads, Saint Mary's Church (two horses shot under him).
Wounded at Deep Harbor, Virginia, July 28, 1864.
In command of regiment at Battle of Boydton Plank Road, October 27, 1864, and at Battle of Appomattox. Opened the last fight between Grant and Lee, April 9, 1865.
Practiced in Philadelphia, since 1877. Professor oral surgery, University of Pennsylvania, since 1898.
