Hepp began his career as an instructor of philosophy at Brown University in 1939. Two years later he took a position of an instructor and assistant professor at Haverford College, where he worked until 1945. Also Maylon served as an assistant director of graduate reconstruction and relief training at the same college from 1943 to 1945.
In 1945, he was appointed an associate professor at Park College and had held it for a year. In 1950, Maylon became a professor at Denison University, where he served until 1973. In addition, he held a position of a chairman of philosophy department at the same university in 1954-1957 and again from 1961 to 1971. In 1965, Hepp became Maria Teresa Barney Professor at Denison University and held it until his retirement in 1972. From 1972 he was a professor emeritus at that university.
Hepp was a member of American Philosophical Association, Ohio Philosophical Association, Association for Asian Studies, American Association for Chinese studies and Phi Beta Kappa.
