(Few people, whether health professionals or laymen, are a...)
Few people, whether health professionals or laymen, are aware of the vast number of research studies which have been done to explore the influence of nutrition upon most major illnesses. A major reason for such ignorance is the difficulty in finding, organizing, and abstracting those studies so that they are readily available to the interested reader. Now, a CD-ROM has appeared which does exactly that. Werbach's Nutritional Influences on Illness CD-ROM summarizes thousands of studies covering more than 100 different illnesses (from acne to wound healing). Now it is simple to find out which nutritional factors may bear a relationship to a particular illness - and if any studies have been done which suggest that the illness could be successfully treated by nutritional interventions. For each nutrient discussed, a series of statements are made, and the most recent, and the finest, studies available pertaining to each statement are summarized. Studies disproving the statements are included; thus readers are given an unbiased view of the data so that they can form their own opinions. Summaries of review articles which have appeared in major journals are also included, so that readers can find out what the experts believe. Werbach's Nutritional Influences on Illness CD-ROM is aimed at health professionals - and certainly every clinician in the healing arts should have it - but its many treasures also await general readers who are intrigued enough by the possibilities of nutritional medicine to be willing to tolerate the sometimes obscure technical language of medicine. Armed with this book, professional and layperson alike can finally justify to skeptical health professionals the often considerable value of nutritional treatments. 1. This is the first book to let the reader discover the actual research studies - what was done, what was found, etc. - rather than simply providing the reader with author's impressions. Thus readers can reach their own conclusions. 2. The book is unusually comprehensive: all major illnesses are covered. 3. The book provides advocates of nutritional therapies with often powerful scientific evidence of their efficacy. Health professionals will find it to be of invaluable help in making clinical decisions and in convincing their skeptical colleagues of the value of nutritional medicine. Consumers will find it invaluable, not only as a source of personal knowledge, but also as a way of convincing their physicians and other treating health professionals of the legitimacy of providing them with nutritional treatments. The pages are in the form of PDF files and may be searched with the built-in search engine or printed out as book pages.

(Current medical practice provides two lines of care: Firs...)
Current medical practice provides two lines of care: First Line Medicine, the basic care provided by primary physicians, and Second Line Medicine, for sophisticated, specialized treatment. When these fail, patients have been left with two options: living with their symptoms, or exploring alternative medicine. Now there is a third option. Third Line Medicine counters the compartmentalization of specialty care by providing an integrated approach which includes both orthodox and alternative treatments - thus offering new hope to the chronically ill and a new direction for modern medicine. --- from book's back cover
