Patrice Debré is a French physician specializing in AIDS research who wrote a biography of the French scientist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895). The book, which marks the centenary of Pasteur’s death, has at its source the many notebooks and writings by Pasteur that Debré drew upon in creating the biography.
In his book The Private Science of Louis Pasteur, Gerald Geison claimed Pasteur was deceptive regarding his anthrax vaccine and the use of a rabies vaccine with human subjects. Pasteur has also been accused of exaggerating his claims and creating evidence.
Patrice Debré became the president of CIRAD in 2004, a position he held until 2010 when he was appointed ambassador of France in charge of the fight against AIDS and STDs.
