Michael Brodsky was born in 1953 in Los Angeles, California, United States. The son of Martin and Marian Brodsky.
Brodsky completed (with honors) a bachelor's degree in environmental studies, at the University of California in Santa Cruz (1975) and a master's degree in art and design at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia (1978).
Since 1978 he has been working both as an art instructor and as the director of the New Image Gallery at the James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Before that he was a photography instructor at the Orpheus Alternative University in San Francisco (1975-76) and at the Friends of Photography Members' Workshops (1975).
He was working in the area of conceptual and environmental photography, combining installation-environments with photo documentation. (He is] investigating man and nature relationships and exploring new structural possibilities in nontraditional uses of photographs and other images.
A member of SPE and CAA. Since 1979 Brodsky has volunteered as assistant Curator for the Society for Photographic Artistic Change.
