Since 2007 he is the Ambassador of the European Union to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. He obtained post graduate diplomas in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University, Bologna Center (1979) and the Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI) in Geneva (1985). In 2005 he became adjunct professor (‘Dozent’) for international politics at the University of Innsbruck, Austria.
Reiterer held positions at the Missions of Austria to the European Union and the General Agreement of Tariff and Trades. He was also Deputy Austrian Trade Commissioner to West Africa and Japan and served as Deputy Director General for European Integration Policy of the Economic Chamber of Austria.
Since 2002, Reiterer entered the then European Commission Delegation to Japan as Minister/Deputy Head. He was previously Counselor for the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM)
In 2007 he was named as European Union Ambassador of the European Commission to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
