Michibumi Takarada was born in 1817 in Kyoto.
Dissatisfied with several masters he began studying by himself.
At the request of Buddhist Prince Kosho of Rinnoji Temple he lectured Japanese and Chinese classics and waka poetry (1836). When Commodore Perry landed at Uraga he took active part in the agitation against foreigners and severely criticized the Shogunate for its pro-foreign policy.
