Attended 1st Foreign Language School, Seisoku English Language School, and Athnee Francais.
Became magazine writer, editor in chief, and editor in charge of translation. Formed the Mikasa Publishing Company in partnership with his wife Tomiko (1933). Among the translations published by his firm are "Gone With the Wind," by Margaret Mitchell and "Study of Dostoyevsky," by Andre Gide.
