Bonch-Bruevich, Mikhail was born on March 8, 1870 in Moscow.


Graduated from the Academy of the General Staff, 1898.


Staff officer. Took part in World War I. During the February Revolution 1917, commander of the Pskov garrison and member of the Pskov Soviet. Commander of the armies of the Northern Front, August-September 1917. Close to his brother, who was a prominent Bolshevik.

One of the first generals to join the Red Army after October 1917. Chief-of-staff to the Boshevik commander-in-chief from the day of the October Revolution, 7 November 1917. High military posts in the Bolshevik HQ during the Civil War.

Specialist on geodesy, cartography and air photography.
