1933-1939 teacher, 1939-1948 lecturer, composition and musical instruments class, Leningrad Conservatory. 1937-1948 Director, then Artistic Director, Leningrad Philharmonic. 1948-1957 Chairman, Leningrad Union of Composers, and board member, then Secretary, USSR Union of Composers.

1951-1953 Deputy Chairman, Arts Committee, 1953-1954 Deputy Chief, Main Arts Board, USSR Council of Ministers. Delegate, and member, Credentials Commission, 1st Congress Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Union of Composers.
