Worked at Obukhov Steel Foundry and other plants. From 1907 associate, Saint St. Petersburg Polytech Institute. From 1930 head, Chair of Metallography, Leningrad Polytcch Institute.
Specialized in conversion processes in aloys with changes in their volume. Demonstrated validity of volumetric method in studying phase changes in alloys. 1933 summarized and classified known data on properties and structure of cast iron.
Wrote several textbooks.
