Mikhail Safonov was born on March 8, 1935 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Mikhail Safonov graduated from high school (1953) in the village of Severodonetsk, Lysychansky Oblast, Ukraine. He graduate of historical Department of the historical and philological faculty of Voronezh State University (1959). In his student years, active amateur art participant, newspaper correspondent in "Voronezh University."
In 1960, Mikhail Safonov went to one of the construction sites in the Kemerovo region, later wandered around the country, worked in the regional newspapers of Leningradskaya (now Saint Petersburg) region and the Kuban. Since 1981 lives in Sweden. Research Fellow of the Stockholm Institute of Slavic Studies University.
Author of prose books published in Kemerovo: "Point on the map" (1964), "Nothing will happen with me" (1965), various collections of poems (Tallinn, 1977,1981, 1983, 1998).
