Mikhail Alexandrovich Bestuzhev was born on September 22, 1800 (in other sources on the 4th of October) in Saint Petersburg City, Russian Federation.
Mikhail Alexandrovich graduated from the Sea Cadet Corps (1812-1817) with the rank of midshipman. He was brought up under the strong influence of his brother Nikolay Alexandrovich Bestuzhev and his friend, naval officer Konstantin Thorson.
From the 1st of March, 1817Mikhail Alexandrovich was a midshipman. From 1817 to 1819 he served in Kronstadt. In 1819-1821 he served in Arkhangelsk. On the 22nd of March, 1825 transferred to the Life Guards of the Moscow Regiment with the rank of lieutenant, which was connected with the plans of the Northern Society. From May 3, 1825, he was a staff-captain.
Mikhail Alexandrovich was a Decembrist. Being a company commander, Mikhail did not apply corporal punishment and disposed to himself many soldiers. That largely explains the fact that on the 14th of December the "Muscovites" followed him. Being neither an ideologist nor a leader, Mikhail Alexandrovich played a large role in organizing the uprising.
Mikhail Alexandrovich wrote about the Decembrists, who retained a critical attitude towards the Russian political system and faith in the true correctness of the Decembrist movement, during which he repeatedly resorted to gospel comparisons.
