Misao Tamamatsu was born in 1810 Kyoto, Japan. He was the 2nd son of Chamberlain Kimihiro Yamamoto.
He studied and mastered the Japanese and Chinese classics on Buddhism under Takamasa Okuni. At an early age he donned the saffron robes and became a priest at the Daigoji Temple.
In 1868 he got an appointment in the Home Ministry and became a lecturer to the Emperor.
