Mitrofan Yefimovich Pyatnitsky was born on June 21, 1864 in Aleksandrovka, Voronezh oblast, Russian Federation.
Mitrofan Yefimovich studied at the Voronezh religious school (1875-1877), at the same time took singing lessons from L.M. Obraztsova, in the 1880s in Moscow with K. Everardi.
Mitrofan Yefimovich worked as a scribe in the Voronezh Control Chamber (from 1881). Since 1903, a member of the Music and Ethnographic Commission of the Moscow Society of Lovers of Natural Science, Anthropology and Ethnography: participated in the concerts of the commission, was engaged in scientific activities. In 1904, 1910, 1920, 1925 he recorded songs from the peasants with the help of a phonograph, many were published in decryption by I. Tezavrovsky, V. Paskhalov, I. Zdanovich.
