Mitsuru Kuhara Edit Profile


Mitsuru Kuhara was a scholar (organic chemistry) of the Meiji Era and Doctor of Science. He was the first president of the Chemical Society of Japan.


Mitsuru Kuhara was born on January 5, 1855 in Tsuyama, Mimasaka Province, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.


In 1877, Mitsuru Kuhara graduated from Chemical Department, Faculty of Science, Tokyo University. Later studied in the USA.


Mitsuru Kuhara was appointed professor at Tokyo University (1881), instructor at the First Higher Middle School(1886), director of the First Higher School, professor at Science and Engineering College of Kyoto University (1898), president and professor at Kyoto University (1912).
